ABOUT

My experience:

I've been counselling for 20 years, and I'm accredited – this means I have “high standards of knowledge, experience and development in counselling” (BACP). I've been a therapist in a domestic abuse service, in schools, at a bereavement charity and a college for autistic adults. I was a family support adviser for 10 years. My current private practice is based in Baildon, Bingley and Saltaire. My approach is personable, gentle and respectful, and I love what I do.

Trauma-informed listening:
For some years, I've been a counsellor to survivors of sexual abuse. I'm trained to know how mind and body respond to trauma, and to listen in a way that respects how trauma affects a person, and helps them feel believed. Feelings that might seem scary now can become a source of strength.

How does therapy work?
Therapy helps with three things: what’s happened to you; how that still affects you, day-by-day; and how you can reconnect with your world.

You decide what to talk about, and how to talk about it; and I listen. I will not judge you or sway your decisions. When a counsellor gets what you’re going through, you start to trust your own voice and your mind adapts so you feel more in-control. You gain new insights into how your unconscious feelings can affect or transform you.

Counselling is, first and foremost, a safe place where you want to be.
